Work / CG-integration

  • Year: 2015
  • Type: Animation
  • Role: Camera operator, Compositor

During my post-production master's course, I teamed up with a colleague to create this short clip with the goal to believably integrate a 3D object into a live action scene. The focus of this exercise was not on 3D modeling or animation, but on getting a good 3D-track and achieve a believable composition. We captured the light information on set by creating a 360° HDRI using a DSLR camera on a programmable panorama tripod head. The scene was tracked with 3DEqualizer, the 3D work done in Maya and the final composite was carried out in After Effects. For more details on the process please refer to the linked documentation below.

Software used: PTGui, 3DEqualizer, Maya, After Effects.
Hardware used: Roundshot VR Drive Panorama Roboter, Canon 600D, Sony a7S.
